Location - Heraklion, Crete

Heraklion (also Iraklio or Herakleion) is the business and social center of Crete and the fifth largest town in Greece. Heraklion is a busy center and a communication hub that receives and distributes the most out of the tourism traffic arriving on the island.

The city, built on the north coast, has seen many conquerors throughout the centuries. Prosperity and decline alternated each other several times, leaving their mark in city's skyline.

So far, the construction of the city is particularly interesting due to the contrasts. Combining traditional and old with modern elements is what makes Heraklion special. Walking around the town, we can see buildings of different eras standing side by side in a special, yet interesting combination.

The city's profile has been really influenced by the Venetian era. Wandering around Heraklion town, visitors come upon various buildings and constructions, such as the Venetian port with “Koules” fortress.

In the city center, Lions’ square with Morosini Fountain is the most photographed and popular attraction in the city.

Music and dance come at the first place amongst Cretan traditions. Rhythm and music is what Cretan people have been born and raised with. Thus, Heraklion could not be well-known for its nightlife as well.
